It’s quite easy to get accepted by a publication, but getting curated is a bit more random. It depends on the personality of the person in the curation team, your article has to fit within a very narrow set of categories, and sometimes their choices just don’t make sense. Similarly, the choices of publication editors often don’t make sense either. They have a very bad habit of not editing mistakes, but changing images that don’t need changing to images which have absolutely nothing to do with your article. It drives me nuts, but that’s what we have to deal with here on Medium. Still, it’s a lot easier getting published and curated here as opposed to a real publication online or in print.
